DJ Semi isn’t just your average DJ turned producer! The self-proclaimed ‘Mixtape Marvel’ is here to leave his mark on hip-hop and R&B music as we know it. Born and raised in Waterbury, Connecticut, Semi began DJing as a hobby at the age of 12. Listening to the likes of Funkmaster Flex, DJ Clue, Green Lantern, and Connecticut’s own DJ KG, Semi decided he would upgrade his hobby to a full time profession. With a passion for creativity, Semi’s early focus on mixtapes has given the DJ mix industry a major change of pace. His clever mixes of new music, remixes, turntablism, and attitude give him the upper hand. “Why go crazy asking your favorite A&R’s for a new exclusive when you know every other DJ will get it at the same time?” asks Semi. “I just go in and MAKE my own exclusives. All the pieces of the remixes fit together like a puzzle, and with my ear I’ve created some really BIG records that you wouldn’t even know were just recycled vocals”. Semi’s past releases have included a project with G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks, Cash Money’s own Lil’ Wayne, and an Eminem Remix compilation. “It’s been great building relationships with the artists. My network allows me to expand my reach to the fans. When you have an artist like Lil’ Wayne co-signing your project you tend to make more noise”. The grind doesn’t stop there. Semi plans to take his creative brand of remixes to the airwaves and other channels. The DJ is just as important as the artist. They are the foundation for the industry. They spin the records. They rock the crowds. The Mixtape Marvel does all of that, with his own brand of creativity and passion. When he’s not rocking large crowds of partygoers or touring the world with major up and coming artist Chris Webby, Semi can be found in the studio working on his own brand of hip-hop production and remixes. “I call it authentic hip-hop”, says Semi of his beats. With production credits for Chris Webby, Apathy, and more, Semi is here to take his brand of hip-hop music to a greater level. Look for Semi in a club or concert near you, and witness yourself his true appreciation for the hip-hop culture.
