Video: DJ Semi and DJ KG Explain The Willow Smith & Nicki Minaj “Whip My Hair” Remix

Early this morning, a remix of Willow Smith’s debut single, “Whip My Hair” featuring Young Money star Nicki Minaj made its way around the internet at a lightning pace. Sharp listeners soon discovered that Nicki’s verse, although age appropriate, was recycled from a guest appearance she made in 2009. The remix, created by Connecticut’s “Mixtape Marvel” DJ Semi, has come to please fans of both Nicki and the lovely miss Willow Smith.

“It leaked from my SoundCloud account early this morning”, explains DJ Semi. Semi was working on a Nicki Minaj remix ‘mixtape’ to release for free on his website DJSemi.com late last night when he uploaded it to his SoundCloud profile. “I usually make all of my project files private so only me and my partner KG can access them, but I was so exhausted that I didn’t wait to make sure it went through all the way”. The song soon found its way into the hands of many blogs and an endless number of Twitter users.

“I’m glad millions of people will potentially hear my work, but I wish it didn’t cause such a ruckus”, says Semi. “My mixtapes are meant to be creative and different. Sometimes the pieces of the remix puzzle fit too well. Keep supporting Willow and Nicki. I can’t think of two more incredible artists then these two young ladies. I hope to hear the real collaboration real soon”!

DJ Semi and DJ KG are currently working on a yet untitled, Nicki Minaj remix project. It will be available on djsemi.com and djkg.net Tuesday, October 26th.
